Understanding your FargoRate and handicaps
Every player in the league is assigned a Fargo rating, a standardized measure that applies uniformly across all formats and table sizes. This rating plays a crucial role in our handicap system, ensuring that matches remain balanced and competitive. Unlike traditional scoring methods, we do not count innings or defensive shots. This innovative system enables players, whether newcomers or seasoned veterans, to monitor their progress and engage in fair competition.
How handicaps balance the game
The handicap system uses a player's FargoRate to determine the "race to" in a match. In team settings, the combined FargoRates of a team are compared to their opponent's total FargoRates. This calculation dictates how many points a team starts with at the beginning of a match. This method ensures that every match is fair and exciting, making the game enjoyable for everyone, regardless of individual skill levels. It allows newcomers to compete confidently against more experienced players.
Why FargoRate matters for improvement
FargoRate provides players with a clear numerical representation of their skill, for example, a 400 Fargo. This allows players to monitor their skill level and observe its fluctuations. It's normal for a FargoRate to change, even subtly, after a match; a player might win and see their FargoRate drop slightly, or lose and see it increase. Additionally, a player's FargoRate will naturally continue to fluctuate based on the ongoing matches of all active players, even if they take a break from playing for a week, month, or year. This dynamic system encourages continuous improvement and a deeper understanding of one's game.
Addressing common questions about FargoRate
One common question concerns the "robustness" of a FargoRate. A player needs a minimum of 200 robustness, which represents the total number of games they have played over their lifetime (regardless of wins or losses). Until a player reaches 200 robustness, they are considered to have a preliminary FargoRating. This preliminary rating will become more stable and accurate as they play more games.
